July 2014 Volume 6 Issue 3

Dear Readers

Welcome to the ReproNet-Africa Newsletter July issue.

As you may all be aware, the HIV community suffered the tragic loss of many dear colleagues in the Malaysian Air flight MH17 that was shot down and crashed. We are saddened by their loss and wish to express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who died.

This issue focuses on female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage which together constitute a tremendous threat to the human rights of young girls. It is estimated that over 130 million girls and women worldwide have undergone FGM. Predominantly driven by cultural beliefs, FGM which is forced upon girls aged 0 to 15 leads to early marriage and health complications. We feature news and research articles showing the progress being made in the fight to end FGM and child marriage. We also present several courses in sexual and reproductive health and HIV; employment opportunities; and a list of useful websites. We hope you will find the articles presented below both interesting and useful.

As always we would love to hear from you so send us your feedback about this issue and/or suggestions for future issues. We encourage you to subscribe to any of ReproNet-Africa’s social media sites including Facebook, Google plus,  LinkedIn and Twitter for fast and easy access to the latest SRH news and information.

Warmest regards
